Frida La Catrina Dress

Yesterday was the last day of our holidays in Gran Canaria and today I woke up to the gloomy Scottish weather. I almost forgot how dark days can be in the north.

I looked at the photos that we took and I am not sure if they cheered me up or made me miss the warm weather and sun even more.
Nevertheless, the Dunes of Maspalomas made a dramatic backdrop for my latest dress design.

Frida la Catrina is the name of the fabric by Alexander Henry from Frumble fabric shop. This cotton fabric has a border pattern, so it needs to be cut on the cross grain, unlike most other fabrics. Also,it is good to consider carefully the pattern placement before the cutting to make the most of this beautiful print.

So, if you noticed the heart on the left side of the bodice, yes, that was planned. I had 3m of this fabric, so I decided to gather a skirt to include as much of the border as possible. I still have some fabric left, so I will make a little purse or some other little accessory.

The dress is fully lined and I used nylon boning to stiffen the bodice panels.
I would also like to mention the jewellery that I wore during this shoot. They are beautiful necklaces and bracelets made of vegetable ivory from Naturally Ecuador. I bought them during Vegfest in Glasgow along with another amazing necklace that I am hoping to feature soon.
